Rules and regulations

 

Article 1: Subject

The 'Tourism Summits' Association, situated in the Chamonix Town Hall (address : Hotel de Ville, 74400 Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France), is organising under the auspices of the 3rd Tourism Summits, a competition entitled "The Sustainable Development in Tourism Prize". The competition will open on 15th September 2001 and close on the 7th December 2001, with the listing of the candidates and the prize giving at the close of the summit.
The closing date for registration is midnight on 30th November 2001.

Article 2 : Participation & Presentation Dossier

The projects presented for participation in the competition must not be already open for market exploitation. In the case of a project which is the extension or an addition to an existing project, these conditions apply to the new part of the project only.
Each project must be presented by the Project Manager responsible for the planning and/or the work itself, or someone with his permission.
A Project Manager can present one project only.
The presentation dossier should include the form from article 5 as well as descriptive documentation of the project, which must be accompanied by a synopsis in French or English. It must contain a descriptive of the objectives, listed in the form of weaknesses for which the project suggests a solution and a list of proposed actions highlighting the points in article 3.

Entry in this competition implies the participant's complete acceptance of these rules & regulations.

Article 3 : The evaluation criteria

The evaluation criteria for each project are :

  • The economic feasibility of the project and its impact on local economic development
  • How the project will be put into place & its social insertion
  • The defence of local culture and identity
  • The preservation & display of the environment
  • Its durability, underlining the equilibrium between economic development and the social, cultural & environmental aspects, touched by the project.

Each criteria is marked out of 10.

The points obtained for each criteria are added together to give a global score, the winner having the highest score. The projects will be classed in descending order.

Article 4 : The Jury

The jury is made up of :

  • A patron : a personality who will remain neutral and objective
  • 5 representatives from the Press
  • 5 tourism: experts, scientists or professionals

The judges decision is final. By entering this competition, all participants agree to accept the judges decision and agree to be bound by these rules and regulations.

The Jury will meet for a day in week 49. The prize will be awarded on 7th December 2001, during the Third Tourism Summits in Chamonix.

Article 5 : Formalities & registration deadlines

Participation in the competition can be made by returning the registration form.

Deadline for participation is midnight on 30th November 2001. All entries received after this date will not be accepted.

Article 6 : The prize

The prize will be presented to the chief project managers responsible for the work study and/or the realisation of the projects chosen as winners.

The prize consists of :

  • The presentation of the project during the scientific sessions of the Tourism Summits
  • A methodological assistance, throughout the project, by the Tourism Summit experts
  • The support of the Tourism Summits by having the use of its label to facilitate access to numerous public services, and access to the network of contacts put at the winner's disposal
  • The communication through media and experts during the third Tourism Summit

The prizes are not transferable, nor exchangeable against another prize or against their financial value.

Article 7 : Fraud

Any attempt or case of fraud detected by the competition organisers may lead to judicial action and will entail the immediate disqualification of the project in question.

Article 8 : The organisers

As the competition organiser, the Tourism Summits cannot be held responsible for the sudden cancellation of this competition due to events beyond their control.

The Tourism Summits Association reserves the right to extend, cut short, modify or cancel the competition if circumstances oblige, and will not be liable to pay moral or financial damages to any participant.

Article 9 : Winners

By accepting their prize, the winners agree to the free usage of their names, addresses, images or photos, voices or hand writing , which may be used for testimonial purposes. The information given on all participation documents will be entered into a database.

Following the law "Informatique et Libertés" (Information & Liberty) of 6th January 1978, each participant has the right to access his dossier and to alter or eliminate information held on record, by simple written demand to the competition organisers.

Article 10 : Litigation

All litigation concerning the interpretation of these rules and regulations will be dealt, without appeal, by the Tourism Summits Association.
