The dynamics of tourism and people's expectations Conclusions
The third Sommets du tourisme 2001 will be the first to deal with the question of the social sustainability of tourism development, while selectively looking at the new concepts and paradigms in the socio-economic no man's land that divides tourists from local populations. The opening session in Geneva will deal with the global framework conditions and rules for the development of a more human form of tourism. The debate will also focus on the process of redistribution of jobs and incomes between the poor and rich countries with the help of tourism. In Chamonix Mont-Blanc the emphasis shifts to a comprehensive analysis of the effects of globalisation on the traditional tourism centres, taking the needs of local populations into consideration. The aim is to find ways of improving the long-term economic attractiveness of tourism for local populations.
