The sustainable development in tourism prize is under the patronage of the Haute-Savoie County Council.

Since 1999, the Tourism Summits held in Chamonix Mont-Blanc have been the principle meeting place to reflect on the problems relating to the sustainability of tourism ; the balance between the environment, the economy, society and culture, and the development of tourism.

During the 5 th edition of the Tourism Summits, which will take place the 3 rd, 4 th & 5 th December 2003 with the theme 'Managing change : the public-private partnership, a success factor for sustainable development', a 3 rd Sustainable Development in Tourism Prize will be awarded to the best project.

It has become apparent that numerous projects of sustainable development in tourism lack the means and the methodology : how to harmonise apparently diverging objectives ; the business plan ; the financing…

The Tourism Summits created the Sustainable Development in Tourism Prize to reward and assist, a project already initiated, whatever its stage of development.

If you have a project in mind, don't hesitate to send it in to us : the best project will be rewarded.

The evaluation criteria for the projects are :

  • The economic feasibility of the project and the impact on local economic development
  • How the project will be put into place & its social insertion
  • The defence of local culture and identity
  • The preservation of the environment & how the environment will be shown to its best value
  • Its durability, underlining the equilibrium between economic development and the social, cultural & environmental aspects touched by the project.

The winning project will benefit from :

  • Communication with the public, the media and the experts present at the 5 th Tourism Summits.
  • The presentation of the project during the following year's scientific sessions of the Tourism Summits.
  • The support of the Tourism Summits by having the use of its name & logo.
  • Methodical assistance provided free-of-charge to the winner, by an expert from the Tourism Summits.
  • The sum of 3,000 ?

The dossier should be composed of :

  • the registration form. All registration forms which are not entirely completed will result in the exclusion of the project.
  • a synopsis in French and English ; this description should not exceed fifteen (15) pages. It should detail the objectives in the form of an analysis of the weaknesses to which the proposed project has the solution and a list of proposed interventions.
  • A letter of authorisation to present the project.
  • Eventually, a list of additional information selected by the candidate.

The designation of the candidate 2003 and the prize giving to the candidate 2002 will take place on the 5 th December 2003, during the 5 th Tourism Summits.

The latest date for registration of participation is midnight on the 15 th November 2003.
