The road and motorway network With 120'000 km of national, regional and country roads and 1'326 km of motorways, Rhône-Alpes is among the top few French regions for the density and quality of its road infrastructures. Access is direct from both the north of France and towards the south in the direction of the alpine resorts and towards all the large European cities (Lyon is about 470 km from Paris, 644 km from Barcelona and 484 km from Milan).
The rail network is particularly developed in Rhône-Alpes : 2'488 km of operated railways, 266 railway stations and stops and 1'000 trains daily facilitate exchanges between the region and French and European towns.
The river network River tourism in Rhône-Alpes is practised on 350 km of waterways, in addition to 35'000 ha or lakes and stretches of smooth water.
