Of a size comparable to Switzerland, Belgium or Denmark, Rhône-Alpes is among the top few great European economic regions.
Its gross domestic product represents more than 10 % of the European Union average GDP.
Second french region on an economic point of view, Rhône-Alpes reckons almost 2,25 millions of jobs (10 % of the french working population is in Rhône-Alpes) and represents 11,6 % of the french industry. The Rhône department is the first regional employer with 650'000 people who work, in front of the Isère department and the Loire department.
