Geneva's
Airport
Geneva has an intercontinental airport offering direct
scheduled flights to about 100 destinations.
A great advantage is the airport's proximity to the city
center : 5 km (3 miles). A direct rail connection links the
airport to the downtown railway station in 6 minutes.
Cornavin Station
The Swiss National Railroad system offers hourly links to
Lausanne, Bern, Basel, Zurich and to the famous holiday
regions of the Cantons of Vaud and Valais. City and airport
of Geneva are joined by rail with more than 200 trains a
day.
Many international routes pass through Geneva to provide
convenient connections across Europe.
The heart of Paris is only 3,5 hours away from Geneva by
the TGV (high velocity train).
Road network and
motorways
In recent years, highway construction within Switzerland
and in neighbouring countries has turned Geneva into a
highway intersection for Europe.
Heading south, motorists can pick up the "Route Blanche" on
the city outskirts to reach Chamonix (86 km) and the
Mont-Blanc within 1½ hours, Italy (via the Mont-Blanc
tunnel) within two hours.
A branch of this same highway offers the rapid links
Geneva-Grenoble (148 km) to the south and Geneva-Lyon (158
km) to the west, with continuing connections on to Paris
(518 km).
To the north and east, the Swiss highway system provides
fast direct links with Lausanne (61 km), Vevey, Montreux (86
km), Villeneuve, Martigny, Fribourg, Bern (152 km), Basel
(260 km), Zurich (274 km) and beyond.
