The sustainable development in tourism prize is under the patronage of the Haute-Savoie County Council.

Article 1 : The Subject

The 'Tourism Summits' Association, situated in the Chamonix Town Hall (address : Hotel de Ville, BP 110, 74403, Chamonix Mont-Blanc Cedex, France), is organising under the auspices of the 9th Tourism Summits, a competition entitled "The Sustainable Development in Tourism Prize".

The competition will open on 1st September 2007 and close on the 14th December 2006, with the designation of the winner 2007 and the prize giving to the winner 2006, during the 9th Summits.

The closing date for registration is midnight on 30th November 2007. Participation in this competition implies the participant's complete acceptance of these rules & regulations.

Article 2 : The Participants

The competition is open to projects concerning their feasibility studies, action plans or development projects aimed at a sustainable territorial development in tourism.
The projects must be presented by the Project Manager responsible for the planning and/or the work itself, or someone with his written permission.
A Project Manager can present one project only.
The projects presented for participation in the competition must not be already open for market exploitation.
In the case of a project which is the extension or an addition to an existing project, these conditions apply to the new part of the project only.

Article 3 : Candidature

The dossier should be composed of :

  • the registration form completed and submitted as required in article 6. All registration forms which are not entirely completed will be excluded from the competition.
  • a synopsis in French and English ; this description should not exceed fifteen (15) pages. It should detail the objectives in the form of an analysis of the weaknesses to which the proposed project has the solution and a list of proposed interventions following the criteria listed in article 4.
  • a letter of authorisation to present the project. The dossier should also contain a letter certifying that the person who is presenting his/her candidature actually possesses the right to do so, or a delegation from the person who holds this right.
  • eventually, a list of additional information selected by the candidate.

All these documents must be sent in electronic version obligatory.

All and any dossiers which do not respond to the necessary criteria, in particular to the criteria of evaluation, will not be retained.

Article 4 : The Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation criteria for each project are :

  • The economic feasibility of the project and the impact on local economic development
  • How the project will be put into place & its social insertion
  • The defence of local culture and identity
  • The preservation of the environment & how the environment will be shown to its best value
  • Its durability, underlining the equilibrium between economic development and the social, cultural & environmental aspects touched by the project.

Each criteria is marked from 1 to 10. The points obtained for each criteria are added together to give a global score.

Article 5 : The Jury

The jury is named by the 'Tourism Summits' association and is made up of :

  • representatives from the Press
  • experts, either scientists or professionals in tourism
  • representatives from the partnership

The judges decision is final.
By entering this competition, all participants agree to accept the judges decision and agree to be bound by these rules and regulations.
The Jury will meet for a day during week 50.
The prize will be awarded on 14th December 2007, during the 9th Tourism Summits in Chamonix.

Article 6 : Formalities & Registration Deadlines

Participation in the competition can be made by returning the entry form.

Deadline for registration is midnight on 30th November 2007. All entries received after this date will not be accepted.

The entry form as well as the completed dossier and its appendices can be sent by e-mail (st@chamonix-mont-blanc.fr) and eventually by post to the Tourism Summits. The Tourism Summits will not take responsibility for any eventual postal charges and in the case of non- payment of postage, will not accept the dossiers.

Article 7 : The Prize

The prize will be presented to the chief project managers responsible for the work study and/or the accomplishment of the projects chosen as winners, or to a representative delegated by the Haute-Savoie County Council.

The prize consists of :

  • Communication of the project by the congress participants, the media and the experts present at the 9th Tourism Summits.
  • The support of the Tourism Summits by having the use of its name & logo to facilitate access to numerous services.
  • The sum of 3,000 euros

The prize is not transferable.

Article 8 : Fraud

Any attempt or case of fraud detected by the competition organisers may lead to judicial action and will entail the immediate disqualification of the project in question from the competition.

Article 9 : The Organizers

As the competition organizer, the Tourism Summits cannot be held responsible for the sudden cancellation of this competition due to events beyond their control.

The Tourism Summits Association reserves the right to extend, cut short, modify or cancel the competition if circumstances oblige and will not be liable to pay moral or financial damages to any of the participants.

Article10 : Legal Usage

By accepting their prize, the winners agree to the free usage of their names, addresses, images or photos, voices or hand writing, which may be used for testimonial purposes. All the participant's projects will be put on the Tourism Summits website (www.sommets-tourisme.org/e/prix/participants.html).
The information given on all participation documents will be entered into a database.
According to the law "Informatique et Libertés" of 6th January 1978, each participant has the right to access his dossier and to alter or eliminate information held on record, by simple written demand to the competition organisers.

Article 11 : Litigation

All litigation concerning the interpretation of these rules and regulations will be dealt, without appeal, by the Tourism Summits Association.
